KNIT AND NATTER

Knit and Natter Group meets every Monday night from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. in kitchen of Askamore Hall – knitting, crochet, needlework, using a sewing machine plus tea and a chat. Beginners and experts of any or all crafts all ages, all welcome.

COMMUNITY CENTRE

Askamore Community Centre is available to host parties, celebratio­ns, family events, christenin­gs and funerals in its newly refurbishe­d hall. The kitchen is now centrally located off the main hall, making the provision of food to those attending events an easier process. The hall can accommodat­e approximat­ely 150 people seated at a time.

If hot food is required, you are welcome to hire caterers to provide same, cooked off the premises and brought in to serve. The Community Centre committee will ensure that the hall is ready for any event you book – tables, chairs, crockery and bar etc will be made available as requested.

Askamore Community Centre must be booked for all such events, and this may be done by ringing Margaret at 087 7628839 or Paddy at 087 2310688.

FINCH’S FITNESS

Finch’s fitness class runs in Ballyroebu­ck on Monday evenings at 7 p.m. and in Askamore on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. – €7 per class. Also Pilates class in Askamore 8.45 a.m. on Wednesdays.

SOCIAL DANCING

The 13th South Wicklow Drama Festival will take place in St Brigid’s Hall, Carnew from Friday, March 24, to Saturday, April 1. The committee once again have a wonderful and varied line up of plays lined up with many local County Wexford groups taking part along with Drama Groups from Counties Cork Armagh and Cavan.

The South Wicklow Drama Festival committee is delighted to announce Michael Poynor GODA ADA as the Adjudicato­r for the 2017 Festival.

KILRUSH DRAMA GROUP

Congratula­tions to Kilrush Drama Group on coming second best play in both Wexford and Kerry Drama Festivals with their production of Hedda Gabbler. Congratula­tions to Ellie Condren on winning Best Actress in both Wexford and Kerry Festivals, to Joe Sinnott on winning Best Actor/Actress in County Wexford in Wexford Festival and to Lar Duffy and Crew on winning Best Set.

Congratula­tions also to Máire Doran on winning Best Young Actress in Kerry and to Jacinta Kavanagh on winning Adjudicato­rs award for best Costumes and the group on winning Best Visual in the Kerry festival.

Well done to Gary Stephens and Timmy Connaughto­n, who won Best Supporting Actor and the Adjudicato­rs Award in the South Leinster Drama Festival, in Gorey. Locals will have another chance to see Hedda Gabbler in the South Wicklow Drama Festival, Carnew on Monday, March 27.

LENT 2017 – Anointing of sick at Vigil Mass of fifth Sunday of Lent, April 2: In this Mass we will pray especially for those who carry the cross of suffering through illness. There are some people who never get the opportunit­y to visit us for Sunday Mass but who would be able to do so on a once off annual basis if they had support from their families or neighbours. We encourage people to bring elderly or suffering family members or friends to the church for this Mass. Craanford Penance Service at Vigil Mass of Palm Sunday, Saturday, April 8. at 6 p.m. Monaseed Penance Service Monday of Holy Week, April 10 at 7.30.

PARISH SECRETARY – We hope to set up a parish office in the near future to provide secretaria­l support for the parish of Craanford-Monaseed. It is hoped that this facility will also support the work of community groups in the area. Our hope is to employ a parish secretary under the auspices of the local CE scheme. This person must be at least 25 years of age and in receipt of a payment from Social Welfare This is a personal developmen­t opportunit­y and training will be provided, however some office experience would be helpful.
