Defendant went ‘off the rails’

-

MYLES Doyle (23), with an address at 81 Pearse Road in Enniscorthy went completely off the rails for a while last year, his solicitor admitted.

Doyle faced theft and motor insurance charges when he appeared at the District Court sitting in Gorey where guilty pleas were lodged.

The defendant stole €122 worth of child care products from the Mace in Ardcavan on November 19; €127 worth of cosmetics from SuperValu in Wellingtonbridge on November 20; and €20 of cosmetics from a shop in Bunclody the following day .

He was driving without insurance when he called to the Mace in Ardcavan and a similar offence occurred in New Ross on the afternoon of Christmas Eve.

Doyle came to the attention of Garda Kevin Burke that day when he crashed the vehicle he was driving.

A similar matter dated back to March 21 last year

The court also heard how on December 9, he paid for a chainsaw and leaf blower at Eddie Watchorn Lawnmowers on the Old Dublin Road in Enniscorthy with a €950 cheque.

The cheque was in his own name but when Watchorn went to lodge it he discovered that the account had been closed.

Judge John Cheatle was further informed that Doyle was already serving a sentence imposed on conviction for theft and he was due for release from Midlands Prison in July.

It was acknowledged that he already had a motor insurance conviction on his record, with further cases pending.

For the matters to hand, he was banned from driving for five years, with a couple of two month sentences handed down, to be served concurrently with the existing term.

A five month sentence was recorded for the defrauding of Eddie Watchorn, suspended once he repays the €950.
