16,000 to take part in Darkness Into Light
OVER 16,000 people are expected to take part this year for Darkness Into Light across County Wexford, which was launched last week in the Riverbank House Hotel.
Participants will wake up in the early hours of the morning to walk or run 5 km at 4.15 a.m. on May 6 in four parts of Wexford – Wexford town, New Ross, Enniscorthy and Courtown.
For the first time Wexford town and New Ross will join in on this national event to help raise money for Pieta House, a charity that provide a free, therapeutic approach to people who are in suicidal distress and to those who engage in self-harm.
Courtown participants will meet at Flanagan’s Wharf 30 minutes prior to starting time and will go along the R742, Red Row Road, by Pirates Cove and back to the start.
Wexford town Darkness into Light will meet at St Joseph’s Community Centre, go towards White Mill Road, by Woodie’s, onto Clonard Road, continuing on Summerhill Road, going by St Aidan’s SuperValu and finishing back at St Joseph’s.
Everyone for the New Ross walk will meet at The Apex, Bosheen, with Enniscorthy all meeting in the Shamrocks GAA Club.
‘At the moment it is €20 to register for the early bird, then it will cost €25. Students, pensioners and job seekers can take part for €15,’ said chairman Liam McCabe.
