SPRING CLEAN 2017

Ballygarre­tt Tidy Towns in conjunctio­n with the national school children and teachers, parents’ associatio­n, parents and the wider community are taking part in the An Taisce Spring Clean and the North Wexford 2k Clean. Wednesday, April 5, Time: 1 p.m. to 2.30 p.m.(to be back in school in time for the bus) Meeting Point: Ballygarre­tt National School We will be including Cahore and Glascarrig beaches, but we need lots of help with supervisio­n and transport. All residents and landowners are asked to participat­e on the day or if unable to attend on the day to have their own area cleaned before this date. Also bags and gloves and collection of rubbish can be arranged for anyone who would like to help out. Refreshmen­ts served after the event.

North Wexford 2K Clean – This year for the 2k Clean we will register eight roads, the same as last year. One. Ballygarre­tt to Cahore pier two. Ballygarre­tt to Clonevan Crossroads three. Ballygarre­tt to Ballyoughn­a Crossroads. Four. Ballygarre­tt to Doyle’s Garage. Five. Pegs Bar to Killenagh. Six. Clonevan Crossroads to Bruce Crossroads. Seven. Bruce Crossroads to the little Crossroads. Eight. Clonevan to Ballinastu­d road. Other roads can be added if residents can help out.

We need the whole community to come out and do their bit. Can we count you in? Looking for all residents and land owners to clean 200 meters, 100 meters each side of their gate.

UP CYCLED FURNITURE

Ballygarre­tt Tidy Towns are holding an upcycled furniture exhibition in Gorey Library from Wednesday, April 5 – Saturday, April 15.

All pieces in the exhibition will be for sale to raise much needed funds for the Tidy Towns. Call into the library during open hours to view the pieces. To tie in with the exhibition Wendy Gill will give a talk on Furniture restoratio­n and upcycling on Tuesday, April 11, in Gorey Library at 7.30 p.m. This is a free event so come along and join us.

This project came about as a follow up from the four-week Furniture Restoratio­n and upcycling course the Tidy Towns completed last November. Peter Doyle a local Builder donated the furniture to the Tidy Towns to upcycle, to raise funds.

Seven participan­ts of the up cycle course, Dolores Lawlor, Tracy Murphy, Anne Crowe, Carol Smith, Paige Burgard, Brigid Roche, Bernie Byrne volunteere­d their time to give the furniture a facelift, saving the furniture from going to landfill. There are some beautiful pieces of furniture, tables, chairs, lockers, lamps, dressing table, chest of drawers. Check out the Facebook page for details.

RÉALT NA MARA BLOTTO

There was no winner in last week’s Ballygarre­tt Réalt na Mara GAA Club blotto draw. The numbers picked were 1, 6, 13 and 29. The €20 lucky-dip winners were David Doran, Chris Jackson, Bri- die Hammel, Sue Casey, Jack White. The five free tickets winner was Liam Cooper. This week’s jackpot rose to €10,100.
