Cosy win for Messi
Exciting finish to A5 stake decider
LAST THURSDAY night’s card at Enniscorthy Dog Track featured the running of the final of the Alcast A5 stake with a nice €1,200 prize up for grabs.
It was a very exciting race as the winner, Cosy Messi, as the saying goes came from another parish to grab the prize near the line for delighted owner Helen Toft.
Nearer last than first going to the first bend, Cosy had a lot to do as Fred The Chauffeur led from Tagalong Hylander who was coming on strong from the last bend.
However, Cosy was getting into full flight and had to come very wide to get up in the shadow of the winning line to score by a head from Tagalong in a time of 29.35.
The night got even better for Helen Toft when her Cosy Scolari broke very well and, although passed by Whitefort Mikey off the second bend, Cosy came back at him off the last bend to power away to score by a cosy two lengths by the end in race eight, the first semi of the track bar A3/4 dual distance stake.
The 575 yards final this Thursday night should prove right up her street.
There is another final this Thursday night also, the Enniscorthy A3/4 575, and probable hot favourite Fortunate Ronnie was a very impressive winner in his semi and will be hard to beat.
Local hope Misterin Smile was also a good winner for Michael Galway in the other semi and could be the main danger in what has been a very nice stake. Monday night saw the start of the Kingsmill Messi unraced stake, and people were left a little confused by the times recorded as the track seemed to be running very slow. Some high-profile puppies ran very well but the times were far from reflecting same.
There is not much between the winners on time so this week’s second round may well see some come forward to stamp their claim for outright honours in a few weeks’ time.
The April Stakes also gets under way this week, and if past history is anything to go by it will be a very competitive stake as A2/3 is always a tough type of grade.
