1 PADDY CASEY IN CONCERT. Singer-songwriter Paddy Casey will perform in the Presentati­on Centre, Enniscorth­y on Saturday, April 15, at 8.30pm. Best known for his hit tracks ‘Saints and Sinners’, ‘The Lucky One’ and Sweet Suburban Sky’ Paddy returned last year after a five-year gap with his fourth album ‘The Secret Life of’ which was produced and mixed at home in his kitchen by himself and Pat Donne who had also worked on Paddy’s first album as well as the demos for all the other albums. Paddy that ‘Pat is responsibl­e for me not throwing away a lot of songs, Saints and Sinners included. This will be my first completely independen­t record. It’s call The Secret Life of because it’s a throwback to a recording style I used to have before I signed a record deal.’ 2 50TH ANNUAL GOREY THREE DAY CYCLE RACE: Up to 200 cyclists and their support teams will arrive in Wexford this weekend for the 50th Gorey 3 Day Cycle Race. The riders leave Blessingto­n at midday on Saturday, April 15, travelling through Baltinglas­s, Tinahely, Carnew, and then do a loop of Craanford - Camolin - Gorey - Craanford. Sunday’s event starts at The Monument in Gorey at 12 midday and involves five laps of the Gorey - Craanford - Camolin - Gorey circuit. There’s a ceremonial start at the Loch gCarman Arms on Monday at midday. The return route takes in Carnew, Shillelagh, Tullow, and Baltinglas­s, finishing 5km after Blessingto­n. 3 COUNTRY MUSIC NIGHT: Gorey country singer Paul Molloy will give the first performanc­e of his debut single ‘Heartbroke’ at a country music night of dancing in The Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey, from 9.30 p.m. on Easter Saturday, April 15. The evening promises to be a great one, as it will also include music from Seán Molloy and Kevin Mulhall; Lar Kenny and Jimmy Hogan; finishing with Paul Molloy and his Country Band. ‘Heartbroke’ has taken the country music charts in the South East by storm, and has received widespread airplay. The video of the single has been viewed on YouTube over 50,000 times. Tickets for the concert are €10, and are available on the door, or from the Ballycanew CE office. Proceeds go to Ballycanew Tidy Towns. 4 THE Cavern Beatles take to the stage at the National Opera House at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday, April 15. The show is a magical history tour through the works of the greatest pop music phenomenon, Replicatin­g in both sight and sound, the excitement and energy of Beatlemani­a, the psychedeli­c era of Sgt Pepper, and the creative masterpiec­es of The White Album and Abbey Road. Bookings on 053 9122144. 5 New Ross riots talk: On Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. - a fascinatin­g talk entitled ‘Revolting Paupers The New Ross Workhouse Riots of 1887 & the Irish Land War’ with Professor Virginia Crossman will be held at New Ross Library. 2017 marks the 130th anniversar­y of the New Ross workhouse riots. On February 17th, 1887, inmates of the New Ross workhouse attacked the master and the government-appointed administra­tors in charge of the workhouse. Professor Virginia Crossman and Gráinne Doran, Archivist, Wexford County Council will discuss the riots and also give an overview of the records relating to the riots. Booking is essential on 051 421877. 6 BENEFIT NIGHT: A benefit night in aid of lifesaving treatment for Ciaran Martin will be held in The Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey, on Easter Sunday night. It is being organised by a fundraisin­g committee from Ferns to help the young son of Ferns native Lynda (nee Jordan), and her husband Leslie. Ciaran has flown to Milan where he will stay with his family for six months while he receives gene therapy, at a cost of €250,000. The night will include a performanc­e by the Deirdre Furlong School of Dance at 8.30 p.m., followed by music from The Heartbeats and Paddy’s Disco. Tickets cost €10. 7 A new production of William Shakespear­e’s most famous play – Hamlet, is being brought to the National Opera House by Arena Production­s at 8 p.m. on April 13 and 14. Prince Hamlet returns to Elsinore where his father’s ghost tells him his brother murdered him to seize his throne and his wife, throwing Hamlet towards revenge and possible madness. ‘To be or not to be’, ‘The lady doth protest too much, me thinks’, ‘Doubt that the stars are fire’, are among timeless lines in this great work.
