Rocket on the fast track with SIRO

-

OPEN-ACCESS wholesale broadband provider SIRO has announced that Rocket Broadband has become its fifth retail partner.

Rocket Broadband has provided broadband services in Wexford since 2006, serving over 5,000 customers in the county and says the new ultra-fast partnership will put Wexford town on a par with leading international hubs such as Tokyo and Hong Kong.

The partnership is the latest example of SIRO enabling regional broadband providers to compete with national telecoms companies, by powering them with its 1 Gigabit broadband network.

Rocket Broadband will launch 100 per cent fibre-optic broadband packages for both business and residential customers in Wexford town, with speeds ranging from 150 Megabits per second (Mbps) to 1000 Megabits per second (1 Gbps), priced from €45 per month.

The company opted to partner with SIRO because of the level of demand from their existing customer base for access to high speed broadband services and due to SIRO’s position as the largest Fibre-to-the-Building provider in Ireland.

‘We’re delighted to unveil Rocket Broadband as our latest partner, enabling residents and businesses in Wexford town to experience SIRO’s Gigabit connectivity, which is three times as powerful as the market leading service in Dublin and 10 times as powerful as the market leading service in rural Ireland.’ said Ronan Whelan, Commercial Director of SIRO .

‘As our fifth retail partner, the Rocket Broadband partnership is also indicative of the high level of demand from telecoms companies for an alternative national broadband infrastructure.’ Mr Whelan said the service would enable local businesses ‘ to compete online with any rival company and young people can dream up and create the next Facebook or Google right here in the town’.

‘Rather than having to invest millions in building our own fibre network, we now have access to the best technology in the country, which gives us a great opportunity to attract new customers,’ said Garrett McElroy, General Manager of Rocket Broadband

‘As SIRO’s 100 per cent fibre-optic broadband network is future proofed, it’s the only broadband service people in Wexford town will ever need. With no copper connections at any point to slow down the network, we’re in a position to deliver incredible speeds and reliability,’ he said.

Using the existing ESB network, SIRO is delivered by fibre-optic cables all the way to the building.

This technology, known as Fibre-tothe-Building (FTTB), has no copper connections at any point to slow down the network and delivers 1 Gigabit download and upload speeds.

For context, a high definition film (4GB) would take one hour to download with a 10mbps connection - with SIRO it will take 30 seconds.
