Woman facing eviction in Ferns determined to stay

- BY DAVID TUCKER

a FERNS woman who is facing immediate eviction from her rented home because it is the process of being sold to the county council has appealed to County Hall to show some compassion, but says she is determined to stay put.

‘ They won’t get me out,’ said Nicola Webster (nee Lynch), who faces the prospect of being evicted from the house on Thursday, unless ‘ they give me somewhere else’.

Nicola Webster (nee Lynch) said her landlord had the right to sell the property, but by agreeing to buy the house to add to its stock of social houses, the council was about to make her homeless.

Nicola has three children, teenagers Jordan and Alicia and Braydn, aged 11.

To add to her problems she has had to quit her job to care for Braydn, who has autism and is now seriously ill and being treated at Wexford General Hospital, suffering from Type One diabetes.

‘He is very bad, I’m very, very worried about him,’ Nicola told this newspaper.

‘ The prospect of becoming homeless has had a noticeable effect on Nicola’s health and mental well-being and this latest blow is the proverbial straw,’ said Eddie Phelan, from Wexford Daddies, who has been trying to help her.

He said that that if Nicola could not remain in the privately rented house, the council should show some compassion and at the very least arrange suitable alternative accommodation.

Nicola said that due to Braydn’s health the the prospect of being accomodated in a B and B was totally unacceptable.

Wexford County Council said pre- viously that the house she was living in was one of three offered for sale in late 2016.

‘Following inspection of the properties, and confirmation of the social housing need in the area, Wexford County Council entered negotations to sell the properties to purchase the properties, to be allocated for social housing.

‘ The houses were offered for sale on the open market prior to Wexford County Council expressing an interest in their acquisition,’ said the council spokesman.
