HOME Instead Senior Care will host dementia care workshop for family carers, on Tuesday, May 16, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Gorey Library. Its purpose is to support family carers in taking care of loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia.

This free event is open to family carers and will help attendees learn practical care-giving techniques such as; suggested approaches when helping with personal care activities; understanding behavioural symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias; learning how to start conversations for effective communication; recognising ways to prevent behavioural symptoms; and discovering ways to care for yourself.

Stephen Conway, owner and managing director of Home Instead Senior Care in Wexford said that they care for many people living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. ‘We hope this workshop is a real help to family carers in the local community and anyone affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias,’ he said.

‘Family carers often struggle to understand the full impact of dementia and it is easy to become overwhelmed. We want to support family carers to provide the best care for their vulnerable loved one. We also want to help family carers to meet and connect with other people and realise they are not in this journey alone – dementia affects many families throughout the country’.
