Sci-fi lovers gearing up for WexWorlds festival

- By ESTHER HAYDEN

SCI-FI lovers will flock to Wexford this weekend as the annual WexWorlds Festival gets under way.

The festival which takes place this Saturday and Sunday in the Talbot Hotel is a sci-fi, fantasy and gaming festival which is organised by a small group of passionate volunteers.

The committee of Brian Roberts, John Cunningham-Ryan, Jamie Lynn Saunders, John Ryan, Bobby McGuire, Billie Jean Doheny and Indre Symyte showcase the best in science fiction, horror, fantasy and gaming in all its forms while paying particular attention to young Irish talent.

The festival will focus on novels, comics, books, video games and other material.

This year there will be a small entrance fee of €5 for adults for a weekend pass. Kids under the age of 12 will get in for free.

Events taking place include crafting events, talks and gaming sessions. The festival is suitable for all ages and this year there will be around 20 vendors attending the festival, each with their own unique items for sale. Vendors include Game Freeze who will be selling retro video games and consoles while Ed’s Comic Hut will have hundreds of comics for sale.

Those attending WexWorlds are encouraged to come in costume and organisers expect to see some much loved sci-fi figures making an appearance in costume.
