GAA NEWS

On Sunday, May 7, the junior hurlers took on Ferns and won by 2-15 to 3-6. Niall O’Loughlin had our lads in front early in play but two easy goals saw Ferns pull in front shortly afterwards. Then a goal and a point from Bryan Dwyer helped us to a single point lead at the break, 1-6 to 2-2.

We started well in the second half and Bertie Gahan, Stephen Lacey, James Sweeney and Shane Kehoe all contributed points. Then Matthew Dunne rattle home our second goal to stretched the lead even further. Ferns fought back and narrowed the lead to four points with a splendid goal but Stephen Lacey and Matthew Dunne popped over points to leave a six point gap at the final whistle.

Last Sunday the intermediates were due to play in Monageer but this game has been postponed till tonight, Tuesday the 16th at 7.30 p.m.

LADIES’ FOOTBALL

The revival of Ladies’ Football in Monageer-Boolavogue is doing very well with the under-12 team showing great skill, dedication and improvement in their recent match against Blackwater on Monday the eighth.

The previous day, the club’s two under-10 teams played a blitz in Cloughbawn. The ‘Red’ team won their first two matches, beating Adamstown and Davidstown and they only lost their third game, against hosts Cloughbawn by a single score. The ‘White’ team also played three games, beating Davidstown, Adamstown and Cloughbawn and showing great skill in all three games.

Then on Thursday night, both teams were out in the under-10 championship, against each other. Well done to both teams and to all the mentors and trainers bringing them so far in such a short space of time.

SOCCER NEWS

On Monday, May 8, the under-12s were at home to Fastnet Rovers and were very unlucky to lose by 0-1. Sophie Kirwin starred throughout and Callum Byrne in goal was excellent. Callum had pulled off a near impossible save half-way through the second half, only to have Fastnet score on the rebound.
