Enniscorthy duo shine bright in student awards
TWO Waterford Institute of Technology students from Enniscorthy were honoured at the annual Sun Life Financials Innovation and Enterprise Award ceremony for projects that demonstrated uniqueness.
Timmy Morrissey won the Innovation award for his project ‘Home Monitoring System’ while other student Steven Tobin won the Enterprise Award for his commercial potential project ‘Audit and Management Tool for AWS’.
Other students from Wexford who reached the final were Conor Burke, Anthony Healy and Padraig O’Neill.
Sun Life Financial is a leading IT employer in the South East with 60 per cent of the work force having studied an undergraduate or postgraduate course at WIT such as Applied Computing, Entertainment Systems and Computer Forensics.
The standard of competition this year for the awards was extremely high, with only 10 finalists, five from Wexford, invited to showcase their projects at an exhibition at Sun Life’s office in Waterford.
Sun Life established the two awards six years ago to encourage and recognise innovation and commercial awareness among the final year students in WIT.
The most impressive projects are then short-listed, evaluated by a cross functional team of leaders from Sun Life before awarding the Innovation award and the Enterprise award to the two most deserving.
