- By DAVID LOOBY

FR. ROBERT NOLAN P.P. of Adamstown celebrated the Golden Jubilee of his ordination to the priesthood recently with his family, Bishop Denis Brennan and priests from across the diocese.

Born in Quay Street, New Ross, Fr Robert was ordained in St. Peter’s College on June 4, 1967, by Bishop Donal Herlihy, the then Bishop of Ferns.

Fifty years on to the day, Adamstown parish acknowledged and celebrated his five decades as a priest in some style in the parish where he has served for 18 years.

Fr Nolan’s first ministry was in Birmingham where he spent five years, returning to the Diocese of Ferns in 1972. He was appointed to Barntown where he ministered for four years,

Following this he became Curate in St. Aidan’s Cathedral, Enniscorthy and became Administrator there in 1991. He then moved to Marshalstown and later he was appointed to the Diocese of Brentwood, London, where he spent two years.

Returning in 1997 to Clonard parish, he was then appointed Parish Priest of Adamstown in October 1999, where he still ministers.

The Parish of Adamstown marked Fr. Robert’s Golden Jubilee on Friday, May 26, with Mass in St. Abban’s Church, which was filled to capacity with people travelling from far and wide for this wonderful occasion. Bishop Brennan celebrated Mass and was joined by many priests from the diocese.

Fr. Robert was also joined by his brothers Patrick, Michael and John, and sister Betty, along with his many friends, relatives, former parishioners and the entire community of Adamstown.

Following Mass everyone travelled the short journey down to St. Abban’s Hall were they enjoyed some wonderful hospitality from the local ladies.

Fr. Robert received many warm wishes and congratulations from all present, with a hope for many more years of good health and happiness for his continued ministry in Adamstown.
