THE GOREY SHOW

The Gorey Show returns to Clonattin on Saturday, June 17, with a day full of entertainm­ent. Competitio­n classes include show jumping, pony games, indoor craft competitio­ns and cattle classes. Other attraction­s include: pet’s corner, the dog show and agility course, machinery demonstrat­ions, garden centre stands, baking competitio­ns and lots more.

Main sponsor Wright Insurance Brokers will be located in the main tent in the middle of the show grounds and will host children’s entertainm­ent throughout the afternoon, including face-painting, crafting and balloon sculpting in addition to the hugely popular puppet shows performed by Red Moon Theatre.

PATRON AND FIELD DAY

St Aidan’s Parish will hold its annual field day on Sunday, June 17. All the usual attraction­s. The event will begin after the annual patron. The Ferns Corpus Christi procession will commence at 2 p.m. at St Aidan’s Church followed immediatel­y by the patron. Those interested in taking part in this event can contact the parish office or any member of Ferns parish council.

ORIGAMI WORKSHOP

There will be an origami workshop in Bunclody Library Saturday, June 17, at 2.30 p.m. Origami is the art of paper folding which is often associated with Japanese culture. The goal is to transform a flat sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding. Contact the library at 053 9375466 to book your place.

‘POP BALLET’ AT OPERA HOUSE

Saturday, June 17: The Ballet Academy presents ‘Pop Ballet’ which will be staged Saturday, June 17, at 7 p.m., in the National Opera House, Wexford. Students from the Ballet Academy will perform to their favourite pop songs with tunes spanning the 70s, 80s, 90s and noughties. Tickets are €17, for bookings contact the Opera House at 053 9122144.

CELTIC SOUL

The Irish première of ‘Celtic Soul’ will be shown in Movies@Gorey on Saturday, June 17, at 7 p.m.

Directed and written by Michael McNamara, this film follows Canadian actor and funny man Jay Baruchel on an epic road trip through Canada, Ireland and Scotland with his new friend, Irish soccer journalist Eoin O’Callaghan. It’s a story that spans 200 years of colourful history and that will take the duo eastward from Montreal to Westport, Ireland – where Jay’s ancestors set sail for Canada, like so many others – and finally Glasgow, where Jay will fulfil a lifelong dream: to watch a match at Celtic Park, one of the wildest and most hallowed grounds in world football.

BASCIVILLE AT ARTS CENTRE

On Saturday, June 17, at Wexford Arts Centre, there will be a concert by five-piece band Basciville, founded by Wexford siblings Cillian and Lorcan Byrne and focusing on Irish soul and blues music. The pair graduated with honours degrees in jazz and have toured extensivel­y throughout Ireland and Europe. Influences range from marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Jeff Buckley, Led Zeppelin and Ry Cooder. PIERCE TURNER IN ST IBERIUS

On Saturday, June 17, in St Iberius Church, Wexford, New York-based musician Pierce Turner (pictured above) will appear in concert as part of a short tour, featuring songs from his ‘Love Can’t Always Be Articulate’ album which was recorded in a Manhattan Church. A WORLD DAY OF LOVE AND LIGHT

All are invited to gather in circles to celebrate A World Day Of Love and Light. There will be three circles in the Gorey area, one at 4pm at the civic centre, 7.30pm at the Bodhi clinic and 8pm on Tara Hill (meeting from 7.30 onwards). People are also encouraged to form their own circles wherever they are on the day.
