Frustrating start

THERE WAS a frustrating start to the day on Saturday for the Wexford folk who travelled down to the magnificent W.I.T. facility in Carriganore for the Celtic Challenge Under-17 hurling quarter-final against Kilkenny.

Wexford had sought, and thought they were granted, a change of throw-in time from 12 noon to 11 a.m., given that everyone was anxious to get back to base as soon as possible for the evening’s action.

However, Kilkenny weren’t in a position to facilitate that request, but the message wasn’t conveyed to Wexford by the organisers.

It meant that the Slaneyside contingent arrived one hour before their opponents who went on to win a tight contest by a point.

While they waited, Wexford people mingled with scores of people about to avail of the latest public amenity opened in Ireland’s Ancient East.

The W.I.T. campus is one of the start-off points for the Waterford Greenway, an attraction that ought to be marked down on the ‘to do’ list of all readers fond of the outdoors.

The old railway line from Waterford to Dungarvan has been developed into a spectacular 46 km. off-road cycling and walking trail, passing numerous places of historical interest and natural beauty along the way.
