Decisive break powers Mairéads to stake victory

THE GEORGE Hair Design open unraced stake final was the feature event at Enniscorthy Dog Track last week.

As is the case with most finals, the break proved the decisive factor as Mairéads Sky made no mistake. Breaking quickly from his trap three box, he was always in control of this final after that.

And while he was racing to a very impressive win, his main rival (Forest Karen) had badly missed her break. She ran on very strongly and just failed to catch Ballinaboola Net for the runner-up spot.

Ballinaboola, owned by the sponsor, George Roche of Barntown, also ran a very good race as he was the main challenger to Mairéads for most of it.

These three should go on to better things in the coming months. Mairéads is owned by John Horan, Co. Kildare, and trained by the well-known Fraser Black. The winning time was a fast 28.88.

The A1/2 Dual Distance dinal over 600 yards saw a very strong-running Fortunate Ronnie follow up on his fine semi-final win when he took control by the first bend and ran on very strongly to hold Strickly Sands’ challenge snugly to record his ninth win from twelve starts for Kilkenny trainer Margaret Fortune.

Clonroche owner John Kehoe enjoyed a good win in race seven, a good A2 grade, on Thursday night when his Sion For Blaze got out well from her trap five box to score a comfortable victory, her twelfth of her career, in a good 28.93.

This September ’13 whelp is running as good as ever as she was only one spot shy of her best-ever run.
