SYMPATHY

Sincere sympathy is extended to the Gahan family of Barmona on the death of Mrs Anna Gahan (née Browne), on Saturday, June 3. Her remains were removed from her son Oliver’s home on Sunday morning for Funeral Mass in Boolavogue at 11 a.m. Burial in the adjoining cemetery followed the Requiem Mass. Predecease­d by her husband Jim, she is survived by her daughters Mary, Jenny, and Tish, sons Michael, Tony and Oliver, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchild­ren, great-grandchild­ren, nephews, nieces relatives and friends.

SYMPATHY

Sincere sympathy is also extended to the Hawkins family of Clondaw on the death of Mrs Eva Hawkins, née Murphy, on Thursday, June 1. Beloved wife of the late Sam, she died in her 96th. year and is survived by her son Mervyn and sister Gladys, daughters-in-law, brother-in-law, grandchild­ren, great-grandchild­ren, nephew, niece, relatives, neighbours and friends. Her remains were removed from her son Mervyn’s residence on Saturday at 6.30 p.m. to Kilcormack Church and her Funeral Service was held on Sunday, June 4, at 2.30 p.m. with burinal in the adjoining churchyard immediatel­y afterwards.

CONGRATULA­TIONS

Well done to Aisling Gahan, Ballycarri­geen, who was awarded the Overall Senior Student of the Year Award 2017 in Coláiste Bríde recently. The person who receives this award has been chosen not only by her fellow students but by the teaching staff as well. Congratula­tions from all in Boolavogue on being chosen for this prestigiou­s award. TIDY VILLAGE GROUP

The Boolavogue Tidy Village group planted some flowers in containers around the Old School recently and cleaned the dressed stone walls in front of the building. They have a lot more work planned over the summer and would be delighted to have some more helpers. If you are interested in helping them please contact Paddy O’Dowd. GAA lotto On Tuesday, May 30, the numbers 13, 20, 22 and 27 were drawn in the Monageer-Boolavogue GAA lotto. The O’Leary Family, c/o Clinton Cox had three of these number and scooped the €160 match-three prize. As no one had all four numbers, the jackpot has been increased to €9,400 for the next draw which will take place in the New Clubhouse in Monageer this Tuesday, June 13, at 9.30 p.m. Tickets only cost €2 and can be had from all club members and local businesses.

300-1 CLUB

Alicia Gahan won the top prize in the May 300-1 club draw with John and Catherine Fenlon winning €50. Barry and Michelle Turner, Statia Ivory, Des Gahan and Kit and Sinéad Carthy were all €25 winners.

The parish council recently discussed the 300-1 club draw and after much deliberati­on, decided to take a break from the 300-1 club draw for the next year. Instead, they are asking every household in Boolavogue to committ to selling six books of raffle tickets, €30 worth, for the ‘Big Draw’ which will be held in associatio­n with the upcoming field-day.

GAA NEWS

Our under-12 hurlers lost 1-6 to 1-10 to Bunclody on Tuesday night last, June 6. They started well but Bunclody built up a strong lead early in the second half. Our lads fought back and scored the last three points of the game including a tremendous score from Bobby Codd.

PATRON AND FIELD DAY

The Parish Committee is ap- pealing to all in Boolavogue to help in preparing for and running the field day which will be held after the annual patron in honour of St Cormac, which will be held on Sunday, June 25, at 3 p.m. They need help in setting up and manning the various stalls and activities. Anyone, who would like to volunteer should contact Fr Gahan or any member of the committee.

Tickets for the raffle which is held each year in associatio­n with the field day will be distribute­d to all houses in Boolavogue over the next week and your generous support would be very much appreciate­d. They also need goods and prizes sponsored for the field day and if you could help in this matter they would be very thankful.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD

On Saturday night, June 17, Martina Ivory is reading at the Vigil Mass with Ann Gahan reading at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning. Minister for the Eucharist at the Vigil Mass is Caroline Farrington with Kathleen Kehoe assisting at Communion on Sunday, June 18.

SOCCER SUMMER SCHOOL

St Cormac’s will be hosting a soccer summer school this summer from the 10th. to July 14 inclusive.

The soccer school will cater for boys and girls from six to 14 years of age and will cost €65 per child. Each participan­t will recieve an exclusive kit, a backpack, a football and a certificat­e. There is a €10 discount for each additional sibling. Anyone, who wishes to participat­e should book as early as possible as the cost rises to €75 nearer the date of the camp.

The Pool Tournament and barbaque held in the Harrow recently, raised almost €1,500 for ‘Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland’ and the organisers would like to thank those who supported the fundraiser. In Boolavogue Hall this Wednesday, June 14, the parents’ associatio­n of Boolavogue NS will have sample uniforms for pupils to try for size. Once they selected the size, parents can order the uniforms. Parents of new Junior Infants can place the orders from midday and other classes can do likewise at 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. that evening.
