QUANTITY & QUALITY
GOREY School of Art hosted its 23rd End of Year Exhibition, showcasing the work of over 70 students in a wide range of different media from painting, sculpture and print-making to film-making, fashion, model-making, animation, set design and photography.
The school run by Gorey Educational Trust Ltd with director Paul Carter has an unequalled reputation in Ireland as a provider of Fetac Level 5 and Fetac Level 6 portfolio preparation courses for students aiming to go to art college.
This year, its results were phenomenal - over 40 student portfolios from the school scored 600 out of 600 at assessments in all the leading art colleges around the country and the remaining portfolios scored well in excess of 400/600.
One hundred per cent of all Gorey School of Art students who applied to the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) were accepted and 100% of all students who made advanced entry aplications to the Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Dun Laoghaire, NCAD and Crawford College of Art in Cork were accepted directly into Year 2 of Level 8 Degree courses.
It is widely acknowledged that the Gorey school is the best portfolio preparation course in the country. All the leading colleges and universities are now recommending it as the place to go for portfolio preparation and foundation years.
The team of talented tutors comprise practising contemporary artists, including Mark Swords whose solo exhibition entitled ‘ The Living and the dead’ is continuing at Temple Bar Gallery and Studios in Dublin until June 17. Another is the artist and art critic James Merrigan.
Three years ago, the school opened a new purpose-built multimedia building to house exhibitions, talks, workshops and courses in filmmaking, photography, coding and design.
The application deadline for 2017/2018 courses is August August 20.
