Gap Arts Festival looking for old photos and video footage

-

AS IT marks its seventh year, the Gap Arts Festival is compiling a short film looking back to the events held since 2011, and the organisers are looking for pictures and videos from the public.

Three projects conducted by director Terence White under the Artist in the Community Scheme have trained locals in film making. They made the short film ‘Capture’; the documentary on the horseshoe team ‘If the Shoe Fits’; and the ten filmettes shot on mobile devices. And all of these pro- jects were documented with behindthe-scenes footage and stills.

‘Ever since these film skills were encouraged in the community, we’ve had people pointing cameras at anything that moves during the festival weekend. And even things that don’t,’ said festival director Garrett Keogh. ‘And so there’s a lot of material to draw on for a look back at the Gap.’ He is appealing to anyone who has photos or videos particularly of the first few years.

And there’s a prize on offer – VIP tickets to the Gap Theatre with cheese and wine thrown in. So send your photos and videos to gapartsfestvid@gmail.com. ‘If a file is too big just get in touch,’ Keogh said, ‘and we’ll organise a Drop Box.’

You can see the type of thing he has in mind in the round-up of the 2016 festival on YouTube.

The retrospective will be compiled by Aisling Leonard of Ballyfad, and will be shown before the play at the Gap Arts Festival on Friday and Saturday, August 11 and 12.
