TORN DREAMS: The Musical, the first original musical penned by Wexford man John Reilly is returning to the Rathnure stage after a seven year break. This July, the group have decided to revisit the music of the swinging Sixties with this brilliant musical which tells the story of two girls divided at birth, whose paths cross later in life in the most coincidental of ways.
The story begins in World War II, when a mother is forced to leave her two young girls in the care of their aunt, as she has to go to England to find her husband, presumed lost in battle. A bomb attack on the port as she is coming home has fatal consequences, leaving her two girls as orphans.
Their aunt can only afford to keep one of them. She decides to bring up Laura, while placing Sue in the care of the Sisters of Mercy in a convent. The girls must never find out that they are sisters, and this is a horrible secret their aunt must carry through her life.
When the girls grow up, they meet as total strangers as they attend St Mary’s Music and Drama School, where the explosive music of the 1960s carries them through life. However, coincidence allows both girls to fall for the same boy, and with the Annual Songwriter’s Contest fast approaching, who will win the competition, but more importantly, will their untold secret ever be revealed?
