Mark (43) died at his home

-

THE death of a 43-year-old Wexford man at his home was recalled at the Coronor’s Court in Enniscorthy.

During the inquest into the passing of Mark Clancy of 3, Well Lane, Wexford town, the jury of six men heard that Mr Clancy’s body had been found by Garda Sinead Flynn.

In her deposition, Garda Flynn said that at 10.08 p.m. on January 21, 2017 she was contacted by Anthony Clancy who said he was concerned for his brother as he had had no contact with him since the previous day, despite making arrangements.

Having forced entry into the house, she found Mr Clancy’s body in the bedroom.

Inspector Sean Clince read the depositions of Anthony Clancy and Mark’s mother Mary into the court.

Anthony Clancy said the last time he had seen his brother was when Mark left their mother’s home on January 20 at 10.20 a.m.

In her deposition Mary Clancy who lives in Ferndale Park, Wexford, said that Mark had been living with her since December 15, 2016 as he had wanted a break and also wanted to avoid people who were calling to his own home. She said he had been due to go to Cluain Mhuire on January 24.

He told her he was going to the bank and she made arrangements to call him at lunchtime that day.

However she had been unable to contact him that day or the following day. She said Mark had been looking forward to getting his life back on track.

Dr Nigam Shah said he performed the post mortem on Mr Clancy and said there was no alcohol or drugs in his blood. Death, he said, was compression of the main blood vessels in his neck.

County coroner Sean Nixon recommended the jury bring back a verdict of suicide which they did.

Dr Nixon extended sympathy to the Clancy family on the ‘very sad and very tragic loss’ of Mark. He said Mr Clancy had ‘obviously been fighting a very hard battle with mental illness’.

Inspector Clince and jury foreman Seamus Whelan also extended sympathy to the family on behalf of the gardai and jury respectively.
