Tragic death of music promoter Barry (38)

THE tragic death of 38-year-old Wexford music promoter Barry Ennis was recalled at Wexford Coronor’s Court.

Giving evidence into the death of Mr Ennis, with addresses at 53, Woodview, Castlebrid­ge, and 14, Woodfield, Clonard, Garda Emer O’Reilly said on January 17, 2017 she was contacted by two men who said they had come across the body of a man in Edenvale. She said that on arrival, it appeared the man had been dead a number of hours. She said that she located his wallet, phone and car keys and establishe­d Mr Ennis’s identity.

His remains were identified to her by Pat Ennis, brother of the deceased.

Inspector Sean Clince read the deposition of Jenni Fenlon from 53 Woodview, Castlebrid­ge, who said that Barry lived with her and on January 17 at 8.20 a.m. he had left their home to bring his two children to school. She said that was the last time she saw him.

Inspector Clince also read the deposition of Jamie Gilroy Barrett into evidence. In it he said he met his friend Luke Dodebier in Castlebrid­ge and they went for a walk into Edenvale as they hadn’t seen each other in some time due to college commitment­s. He said they saw Mr. Ennis’ body and called gardai.

Dr Nigam Shah, pathologis­t, said he performed the post mortem and that death was due to asphyxia.

County coroner Dr Sean Nixon recommende­d the jury of six men return a verdict of death by suicide which they agreed with.

Dr NIxon extended sympathy to the ‘ huge number of family, friends and acquaintan­ces of Mr Ennis on the very sad and very tragic loss of a very fine young man’.

Inspector Clince and jury foreman Seamus Whelan also extended sympathy to the family on behalf of the gardai and jury respective­ly.
