A HIGHLIGHT OF THE FESTIVAL

-

IF YOU ARE a fish lover, head for Kilmore Quay on July 7, for the annual Fish Friday.

Now in its eighth year, Fish Friday is one of the highlights of the Kilmore Quay Seafood Festival with a fantastic line up of award-winning chefs and wine tasting with Rosslare hotelier Bill Kelly.

Local fish processors have come together to offer the best quality, freshly caught seafood at exclusive festival prices. Fish goes on sale from 11 a.m. and can be kept on ice while those attending the celebration of fish food enjoy a day of top class cooking in the marquee.

Fish Friday is all about the senses. ‘We have a display table where Michael from Saltee’s Fish will talk you through the huge variety of fish species landed here in Kilmore Quay,’ said Silvia Kehoe, one of the organisers.

‘You will have the opportunity to see the huge array of fish, touch the different species, taste and smell the seafood dishes, freshly prepared and served by our chefs and hear all the valuable tips on preparing and cooking fish along with advice on tasting and selecting wines,’ she said.

Some of the top chefs in Ireland will be the village for the day. They include Paul Hynes, of ‘La Cote’, at 11.45 a.m., double trouble cooking with Derry Clarke, of L’Ecrivain, and Warren Gillan of Cistin Eile at 12.30 p.m., Gopal Kawander, from the Silver Fox at 1.30 p.m. and at 2.15 p.m. Executive Chef Eugene Callaghan, from Kelly’s Resort Hotel, and Bill Kelly will be showcasing seafood and wine.

Nicky Cullen, from Mary Barry’s Seafood Bar, in Kilmore, will show off his cheffing skills at 3.15 p.m.

‘The community of Kilmore Quay will be delighted to welcome you to this magnificent free gathering,’ said Sylvia.
