AUTHOR CARMEL SPENDS A DAY ON ‘COLD FEET’ SET
WEXFORD author Carmel Harrington got to rub shoulders with the cast and crew of Cold Feet in Manchester last week and had her photograph taken on set with stars of the hit television show.
The Screen resident described the experience as ‘a day I’ll never forget’ and although she wouldn’t reveal any juicy information about the new series, she said: ‘It looks incredible and it’s going to be unmissable.’
The author was invited to meet the Cold Feet actors thanks to having been chosen to write a spin-off book about what happened to the characters of the ITV drama after it stopped broadcasting in 2003.
She was selected from a long list of interested authors and a shortlist of six who were asked to write a 4,000-word sample chapter about an episode during the years between 2003, when the programme stopped broadcasting, and last year when it returned to television screens.
Carmel said there was also lots of excitement on set about the new book ‘Cold Feet: The Lost Years’, which is being written in collaboration with the creator of the show Mike Bullen and is due to be published by Hodder & Stoughton in September, to coincide with the seventh season of the show.
The author grabbed the opportunity to present the cast with freshly-printed copies of her new novel ‘The Woman at 72 Derry Lane’, which was released by HarperCollins Publishers in early June. It is set on a leafy street in Dublin and explores the unlikely friendship between two neighbours.
On its return to ITV last year, Cold Feet was watched by seven million viewers, so Harrington has a large potential readership for the upcoming book based on the show.
The former sales and marketing manager has enjoyed a successful writing career since self-publishing her first novel Beyond Grace’s Rainbow as an ebook while on maternity leave in 2012 and later winning a two-book deal from HarperCollins.
