Town teams to the fore in Juvenile football tests

STARLIGHTS CONTINUED their impeccable form in the Gorey Guardian Juvenile football Premier championship by beating Shelmaliers to remain perfect. Naomh Eanna, who have lost just the one game to the table-toppers, picked up a victory over Sarsfields while Castletown also won.

The clash of the unbeaten sides at the summit of Roinn 1A proved to be no contest as HWH-Bunclody claimed a huge win against Rathgarogue-Cushinstown.

The summit dwellers have won their five games by a remarkable average of 23 points. Slaney Gaels, Blackwater and Ferns also picked up the two winning points.

A spirited St. Joseph’s side were the first team this season to deny Horeswood in an entertaining 3-2 to 1-8 draw in Roinn 1B. The Bishopswater boys have drawn a remarkable three of their five games and sit joint second with Our Lady’s Island/St. Fintan’s, winners over Moguegeen Gaels.

Craanford were made to fight hard by a gutsy Shamrocks side in Roinn 2A but they eventually emerged with the slenderest of wins to stay perfect. Davidstown-Courtnacuddy are right in the mix near the summit too, as they defeated Buffers Alley with a bit to spare in Monamolin.

St. James’ bye week in Roinn 2B allowed Ballyhogue to join them on eight points with victory over Bannow-Ballymitty.

Crossabeg-Ballymurn have lost just one game so far and they were clinical in dispatching Adamstown, while Kilross Gaels received a walkover.

While the Minors were studying up to recently, the Under-14s were still playing and the New Ross Standard football championship continued.

In Division 1, Naomh Eanna made it five wins from five with a big victory over a Buffers Alley side still probably recovering from their Féile hurling exploits.

Elsewhere, Sarsfields kept pace with a solid victory over Shelmaliers, Glynn-Barntown secured a big win against Starlights, and Ballinastragh Gaels made the long journey to Piercestown and came away with the points.

Naomh Eanna then continued their fine form in Division 1 with victory over Shelmaliers. Starlights and Glynn-Barntown also won but the tie of the week saw Sarsfields and Buffers Alley play out a crazy 6-3 to 5-6 draw.

In Division 2, Fethard’s Féile Peil involvement meant their game against Rathgarogue-Cushinstown was put on ice. It allowed HWH-Bunclody to take advantage by winning their own clash with St. Anne’s and move level on points at the summit. Our Lady’s Island/St. Fintan’s picked up their third win of the season against St. James’.

As Division 2 moves towards its final round, the top three then all picked up full points. HWH-Bunclody beat St. James’, Horeswood got the better of Rathgarogue-Cushinstown, while Féile stars Fethard kept their winning run going with victory against Cluain O’Rahilly’s.

In Division 3, Kilrush are alone in top spot but they were made to fight hard for their 5-11 to 4-10 win against Ballyhogue. Kilmore kept pace at the top with a fine win over Adamstown, while Monageer-Boolavogue and Oylegate-Glenbrien played out an exciting draw.

The parity in Division 3 was in evidence again with league leaders Kilrush being pushed all the way by joint-bottom Adamstown (2-4 to 2-3).

Oylegate-Glenbrien and Ballyhogue kept pace with strong success against Blackwater and Kilmore, while Monageer-Boolavogue also won.

Davidstown-Courtnacuddy remained perfect in Division 4A after accepting a concession from Craanford, however, Castletown kept pace at the top with a thumping victory over St. Patrick’s in Camolin.

Davidstown-Courtnacuddy then picked up two more points without playing in Division 4A. Craanford did have to take to the field and they put in a sterling performance to ease past Marshalstown-Castledockrell, while Castletown defeated Duffry Rovers.

In Division 4B, St. Mary’s (Ross- lare) scored six goals but still fell to a determined Taghmon-Camross outfit.

St. Mary’s (Maudlintown) played two games in three days. They lost the first of those in a high-scoring encounter with Bannow-Ballymitty but were able to bounce back with a win against Taghmon-Camross.

In Division 5, the 13-a-side edition, Cloughbawn continued their impressive season with a victory away at Clonteers.

Réalt na Mara have also had a good year to date and they proved too strong for Geraldine O’Hanrahans.

Blackwater put up 5-20 against Fr Murphy’s on their way to victory in Roinn 1A of the Wexford People Minor hurling Championship.

Meanwhile, in Roinn 1B, Cloughbawn won by double scores against Our Lady’s Island/ St. Fintan’s, 2-12 to 1-6 in Carne.
