Renowned artists all set to take over Gorey Civic

-

FIVE renowned local artists are getting set to take over an area at Gorey Civic Centre next week for a week-long art project.

One of those involved, Ian Lacey said that Process Art Gorey 2017 is ‘an open studio event and exhibition where the art process is as central to the project as the final show’.

The artists involved are Ian Lacey, Patrick Redmond, Amanda Doran, James Kirwan and Stephen Nolan who all have very different styles. They will create portraits from models for the week beginning Monday, July 24, from 10.30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Each artist will pose for a day and the project will be done in the open space where the public can view the work being made. The project will culminate in an exhibition which opens at the Civic Centre on Friday, July 28.

‘As there is no set medium for the artists, work pieces will be fresh and contemporary and could be made using various digital and traditional art materials,’ said Ian. ‘There will be scope for the artists to work individually and collaboratively.’

‘The exhibition will be of an organic nature. As the work is made it will be hung,’ he explained. ‘Thus the exhibition will grow, form and change throughout the week.’

‘We envisage this to be an annual open studio event,’ he continued. ‘Each year the theme will be different, with this year’s being portraiture.’

‘The project is about openness and the interaction of the artist, the space, the work and the public,’ he said. ‘It will give a real insight into the how an art show is created and developed. The intention of the project is accessibility. The theme of portraiture is itself accessible. The open studio makes both the artist and the artistic process accessible.’

‘The location of Gorey Library, whether inside or out, we hope will encourage people of all ages to come,’ concluded Ian. ‘There will be an educational benefit also where people can learn through observation the techniques used by the artists.’

The process will be filmed, photographed, documented, live streamed and posted each day online. Follow the livestream at Process Art Gorey on Facebook.
