GAA NEWS
An understrength Junior ‘A’ footballer team took on Marshalstown at home in Monageer on Thursday, July 13, having drawn with Ballyhogue in the first round of the championship.
They trailed by 0-1 to 0-2 early in the game but when a Seán McCabe scorcher had them 1-1 to 0-2 ahead, the panel, fielding without six of their usual forwards, began to have hope. Marshalstown replied with a fine goal soon afterwards and lead comfortably by 1-10 to 1-3 at the break.
The visitors kept up the pressure early in the second-half and notched up some fine points before our defence began to gain control and kept Seán McCabe, Barry Murphy and Ray O’Brien well supplied with stylish passes. These they converted but they ran out of time and Marshalstown deservedly won by 1-15 to 1-8.
Team: Colin Hawkins, Lee McHale, James Donohoe, Adrian O’Loughlin, James Breen, Ray O’Brien, Ciarán Rochford, Seán McCabe, Peter Mernagh, Denis Walsh, John Murphy, Paudi Cooney, Daire Walsh, Barry Murphy, Adam Dunne. Subs: Pa Walsh, Laurence Murphy.
