On Saturday, July 30, at 3 p.m., Thomas Pakenham, one of the world’s foremost tree experts, will revisit Huntington Castle as he discusses some superb trees and a number of the Irish champions in the grounds of the castle including hickory, oak and Siberian crab apple. Discover the scenic avenue with its amazing lime tree collection and the world famous Yew Walk. Enjoy the ‘Wilderness’ woodland paths which lead to the newly restored ornamental lakes. TIDY VILLAGE MEETING

Clonegal Tidy Village Associatio­n will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, July 26, at 8 p.m. in St Brigid’s Hall, Clonegal.

ARDATTIN DEVELOPMEN­T GROUP

On Sunday, July 23, Ardattin Developmen­t are honouring Mim Gorman by naming the field in his memory. A granite stone will be placed at the entrance. There will be an opportunit­y to donate on the day towards the cost of the granite stone and to the upkeep of the field.

To finish off the year in style, Slaney Valley Community Games are holding a ‘Fun Day’ at 2.30 p.m. to mark Mim’s memory and to celebrate another successful year in Community Games.

Games that are planned will include three legged race, egg and spoon, sack race, water relays, team relays, etc. Also included, are a mammy and daddy three legged race and a family relay, to name a few. All ages are welcome.

Please bring spoon, potato and an old scarf or tie. Refreshmen­ts will be served in the hall. The emphasis of this day is on fun for all ages and abilities. BALLYFAD PATRON.

Ballyfad was blessed with a beautiful sunny day for their annual patron which took place in the cemetery on last Sunday, where Rev Fr Denis Browne presided and blessed the graves and prayed for all members of the community who are buried in Ballyfad cemetery.

BIRTHDAYS.

Congratula­tions to Jack Robert Hughes Ballylacey, who celebrated his ninth birthday on last Sunday, July 16. Also birthday greetings to Nadine Roche Thomastown, who celebrated her birthday on last Monday, July 17.

The patron takes place in Davidstown on Saturday, August 5, at 6.30 p.m. which will be followed by field evening.

GAA

Davidstown-Courtnacud­dy camogie and ladies’ football club have tickets at €10 each for race meeting in Wexford Racecourse on July 28 (ladies evening). This is Wexford LGFA fundraiser. If anyone would like to buy a ticket or sell a few please contact Tommy Kelly or any member of the club.

HOLY HOUR

A Holy Hour with Exposition of Blessed Sacrament will take place in Courtnacud­dy Church on Sunday, August 13, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Holy Hour will take place every second Sunday of each month. start just outside Ferns GAA Clubhouse and finish back in the clubhouse taking in a lap of ‘The Stump Lane’. The run/walk will be timed and refreshmen­ts will be served afterwards. Entry fee is €10. There are cash prizes for first, second and third man and woman. RÉALT NA MARA GAA CLUB NOTES.

The summer camp takes place on July 24 – check out gaa.ie for details and to book in. There has been a big uptake of boys and girls so far, so get signed up and enjoy the fun.

The intermedia­te hurlers had a good win against Ballymurn last week to reclaim the Séamus Doyle cup, well done to players and management and thanks to all who helped out in the complex afterwards. Thanks to Ballymurn for a sporting game and good luck to them in the championsh­ip.

Hard luck to Cormac Moore and Cathal Dundar, who played for Wexford in the Leinster under-21 hurling final last week. It was a great achievemen­t for the club to have two representa­tives on a Leinster final team, well done lads and best of luck to Cathal and the Wexford hurlers, next Sunday in cork.

RESULTS

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot numbers drawn were 1, 9, 18 and 23. Two matched three numbers – May McGuiness and Maureen Willoughby.

The next jackpot draw will take place in the Park Land Bar in Ardamine on July 26. The lotto jackpot now stands at €3,900. Why not try your luck. Tickets are two euros and can be obtained in the Riverchape­l/Courtown area.
