SCHOOL PROJECT

Folklore and local history material from Counties Wexford, Wicklow and Carlow have been uploaded to the National Folklore Collection­s free website duchas. ie the material is from schools collection­s which contains folklore material recorded by pupils between 1937 and 1939. It consists of more than half a million pages of handwritte­n stories and reports noted by some 50,000 primary school children across the 26 counties. Included in this material are many gems of local interest written by pupils from 11 to 14 years from Castledock­rell NS, Marshalsto­wn NS and Monart NS. It gives an interestin­g insight of the parish in times past and has the names of the children who wrote the stories and their teachers. The website is duchas.ie.

RUN 5KM WITH RAY

Organised by Raymond Byrne, this fantastic event took place in blistering heat last Sunday, July 9. Despite the hot and humid conditions runners and walkers took to the course with great enthusiasm, enjoying the ice cold water along the route and wellearned snack on the finishing line. This was compliment­ed with some scrumptiou­s refreshmen­ts after cooling down and everyone was able to relax and enjoy the music. Well done to all who ran or walk and many thanks to everyone for their support. Thanks to Raymond for his trojan work in bringing such an event to the village. Winners of the raffle were Abbie Byrne, Noel Kennedy, Mary Bailey, Elisa Leacy and Denis Moynihan. Link of race results can be found on the run with Ray 5k Facebook page.

CRAANFORD-MONASEED PLAYSCHOOL

Craanford-Monaseed Playschool summer camp will take place on July 17 to July 21 (€50) and August 8 to August 11 (€40).

CRAANFORD FIELD DAY.

Craanford field day and vintage rally takes place on Sunday, July 16.

The Great Pavlova Bake off will take place this year in memory of the late Ann Whitty. Ann’s pavlova was renowned and her family wish to present a perpetual cup to the winner of the best homemade pavlova presented on the day. Entries will be taken up to 2 p.m. on the day with an entry fee of €10.

All donations for bottle stall, bric-a-brac and cake stall can be left into Cooney communicat­ion any time between now and field day; into the hall on Saturday the 15th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., that evening after Mass or on the morning of the field day or into parish office Wednesday and Thursday before field day.

The next committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 11, at 9 p.m.

Tickets for the grand raffle are currently on sale, with some great prizes on offer including vouchers and cash, anyone able to help sell tickets is asked to contact Liz Furlong.

CRAANFORD-MONASEED CARDIAC FIRST RESPONDERS.

Well done to CraanfordM­onaseed Cardiac First Responders, who went live at the Run For Ray event on Sunday, July 9. After a year of hard work, meetings, organising, and training sessions, a group of local’s volunteers from CraanfordM­onaseed are now linked into the National Ambulance Service. They support our community should someone experience chest pain, a stroke or collapse. Once 999 has been called these local volunteers will be quickly en route to your home.
