The participants were selected at random in a draw at the National Sports Campus in Dublin recently, which was attended by representatives of the club.
However, their lips were sealed until they gathered club members, parents, guardians, and volunteers in the Loch Garman Arms in Gorey recently to announce the big news.
With the suspense at its height, club chairperson Mary Eogan-Tobin finally revealed that the following athletes will compete in the following disciplines: Bocce: Ann Ken- nedy. Swimming: Liz McCarthy, Liz Daly, Lily Devereux. Badminton: Brendan Carroll, Joe Moffatt, John Doyle.
Mary congratulated them on their selection and wished them the best of luck.
As well as attending their regular club meetings, the team will also take part in monthly Leinster training sessions. The Ireland Games will mainly be held in the National Spots Campus in Abbottstown next June. Athletes generally have to earn at gold medal at Irish level to be in with a chance of being selected for the World Games which will be held in Abu Dhabi in 2019.
The SOCGA athletes are currently on a break from training for the summer, and resume in September. To volunteer with SOCGA, contact Roisin on 087 6953811.
