Parents are shopping at Aldi and Tesco for generic uniforms

SCHOOL uniforms are often seen as one of the biggest burdens as they prepare to send their children to school.

Growing kids coupled with the rough and tumble of school life not to mention frequent washing can often result in parents being forced to buy at least one school uniform per child each academic year although often they are forced to supplement this with various parts throughout the year.

For those who don’t require specially branded uniforms there are plenty of cheaper options which can be picked up while doing your grocery shop depending on the colour of the uniform.

Aldi is advertisin­g one of the cheapest school uniforms going at the moment where it is possible to pick up a school uniform comprising two polo shirts, a sweatshirt and a trousers or skirt for a mere fiver.

Boys and girls shoes start from €6.99 at the German retailer.

The cheapest uniform item at Aldi starts at €1 for a round neck sweatshirt while a two pack of short sleeve polo shirts costs €2.

A two pack of short sleeve shirts, girls or boys, start from €3.49 while a pair of trousers, girls or boys, starts from €2. A two pack of girls knitted cardigans starts from €6.99 while a pinafore two pack is €7.99.

A two pack of crew neck tee shirts costs €1.99 while a girls pleated skirt starts at €2 in a variety of colours. A pair of jogging bottoms comes in a €3.49. Socks start at €2.49 while tights are €4.49. Backpacks are €8.99.

Uniform sizes start at 3-4 years and go up as far as 10-11 years. Aldi recommend parents buying a size up saying that children grow fast while the clothes are machine washable, colourfast, tumble dryer friendly and easy iron.

Tesco is also currently selling uniforms for very compet- itive prices with prices varying de- pending on size.

A two pack of trousers comes in at between €8.50 and €14 while a two pack of shorts is €5.50.
