WATER GREAT DAY!
IT WAS a day of wet and wild fun, as well as friendly competition on the River Slaney recently as Edermine Ferry Rowing Club held its annual Regatta.
Always a great event on the rowing calendar, hundreds of people, participants and spectators, descended on the Marmion Bridge at Edermine for a feast of sporting competition.
All of the clubs from the Slaney Rowing Association were represented on the day and they were all primed and ready to reap the rewards of plenty of hard work and training as they took to the river in search of the big prizes.
A total of 28 races took place over the two days, including both adult and under-age events, and it made for some exciting watching as teams battled it out on the river each evening.
The event was also a great opportunity for people to come and see what rowing is all about and each of the clubs are hopeful that they may just have inspired some among the spectators to pick up the oars themselves and maybe take part in next year’s event.
Edermine Ferry Rowing Club wish to thank everyone who helped in any way in making the event such a success, as well as the other clubs who took part.
The Killurin club claimed 15 race wins at the event, with both the host club Edermine and Ferrycarrig recording four victories each. The St. Kearns club in Saltmills had two race wins.
