Thousands keep it country at Killag music fest

-

Despite the change in weather yesterday (Sunday, July 30), thousands enjoyed some of Ireland’s top country musicians at this year’s South East Country Music Festival in Killag.

The much-talked about event included a great lineup and among those were Nathan Carter, Mike Denver, Jimmy Buckley, Cliona Hagan, Lee Matthews and The Conquerors.

Die-hard fans had the pleasure of meeting their idols after winning some meet-and-greet tickets which they managed to grab through a Facebook competition leading up to the event.

‘Some of the acts like Mike Denver and Nathan Carter stayed around after their performances and even got in some pictures with fans who didn’t manage to win our competition,’ said festival chairman Matt Reville.

Matt said even though the weather was against them it still did not stop people from coming, as this year proved to be a better success than last year.

Committee members received positive feedback, with the large dance floor being the main attraction with people as they all danced continuously throughout the day.

Matt said: ‘I would just like to thank all of our volunteers on the day, it would not have been as successful if it wasn’t for them giving us a helping hand. We are still finalising the figures but all proceeds will be donated to the parish of Kilmore and Rathangan.’
