Prizes for fantastic jams
WHERE BETTER to look for Ireland’s best pot of jam than in Co. Wexford? As part of the Gorey Market House Festival, Gorey Municipal District recently announced the results of its annual jam competition.
The winners were revealed at a jam making demonstration with Margaret Corcoran in Gorey Civic Centre. Thanks went to Greens Berry Farm for sponsoring the fruit for the demo; Wexford County Council for sponsoring the cash prizes; Morri & Kell and Different Strokes for the individual prizes; and Margaret for the scones enjoyed with her jam afterwards. Tina O’Sullivan of Wexford County Council and Margaret had the tough task of selecting the winners from the 29 entries, and district cathaoirleach Cllr Joe Sullivan had the nicer task of handing out the prizes.
The prizes were: 1, €60; 2, €40; 3, a jam kit. The winners were: Strawberry: 1, Sadbh Quinn, Crossabeg; 2, Martina Byrne, Camolin; 3, Bridget Carroll, Carnew. Raspberry: 1, Siobhain O’Flynn, Ferns; 2, John Redmond, Camolin; 3, Myles Byrne, Gorey. Mixed fruit: 1, Marcella Cremin, Knockanna; 2, Kerrie Sharpe, Courtown; 3, David Gormley, Farmleigh. Exotic: 1, John Moran, Wexford; 2, Kerrie Sharpe; 3, Brenda Kehoe, Camolin. Best Man Made Jam: John Moran, €50 voucher for Morri & Kell. Best Label: Bridget Carroll, €50 voucher for Different Strokes.
Best Overall Pot: John Moran, €100.
