CAMOGIE

Following on their virtual whitewash of St Ibar’s the Monageer-Boolavogue Junior camogie team qualified for the Co. semi-final with an 8-15 to 1-3 win over Coolgreany on Wednesday, August 30. In what was probably their toughest match to date, Síona Nolan and Anna Murphy’s control of mid-field kept a steady supply of quality passes feeding the forwards. Top scorer of the game was Órla Stafford with five fine goals.

SOCCER NEWS

Our men’s team lined out against Moyne Rangers at home in Luke Foran Park on Tuesday last, August 29. The team was comprised of an amalgam of the ‘A’ and ‘B’ squads and they won by 4-2 thanks to a goal apiece from Ray O’Brien and James Sweeney with two own goals from the opposition.

On Wednesday of last week, the Youths’ mentors held a very well attended meeting for the parents of the squad. They outlined their plans for the season and consulted with the parents regarding training and other matters. At the end of the meeting the plans were fully endorsed by the parents.

COMHALTAS LESSONS

The Monamolin/Kilmuckrid­ge branch of Comhaltas will resume their classes in Monamolin Community Centre on Monday, September 11, from 6 p.m. till 7 p.m. The teachers would be delighted to welcome back all last year’s pupils and new pupils will be made most welcome. PARISH MISSION

A parish mission, conducted by the Redemptori­sts, will be held in Monageer-Boolavogue between November 4 and 10.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD

On Saturday night, September 9, Rosaleen Gahan is reading at the Vigil Mass with Marie Barne reading at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning. Minister for the Eucharist at the Vigil Mass is Geraldine Doyle with Catherine Gahan assisting at Communion on Sunday, September 10.

PLAYSCHOOL

There are still a few places available in the Boolavogue Playschool which will re-open in September. There are two sessions, from 9 a.m. till midday and from 12.15 p.m. till 3.15 p.m. each day. The playschool caters for children two years old and upwards and if you wish to book a place or require further informatio­n, please contact Marion at 087 6107701.

GAA NEWS

On Tuesday last, the under-12 hurlers lost their semi-final to Cloughbawn by 3-12 to 3-8. Cloughbawn started strongly, scored early and never surrendere­d the lead. Our lads never gave up and finished tremendous­ly strongly, scoring two goals in the last quarter and narrowly missing a third.

The previous evening the under-six boys and girls played their first ever hurling game, taking on Cloughbawn. Over 30 players represente­d the parish in a thrilling encounter.

On Sunday, August 27, the annual Tom Daly under-10 Hurling blitz was played in Monageer. Eight teams participat­ed, with two teams each from Bunclody, Ballymurn, Raparees and Monageer-Boolavogue taking part. The Rapps were worthy winners at the end of a thrilling tournament and they were presented with the cup by Tom’s brother, Peter. Our own under-9 team won the shield, demonstrat­ing how much they have improved over the year.

PARENTS/TODDLERS GROUP

Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 6, the parents and toddlers group will resume in Boolavogue Hall. New members are always welcome.
