Slick Barbers crowned the best in Ireland

SLICK Barbers in Gorey have proven they really are a cut above the rest after being crowned best barbers in the country last week.

Owners Arlene and Higor Garcez of Slick Barbers, Clonattin Road, Gorey were over the moon after they received Best Barbers of 2017 in the Irish Hair and Beauty awards held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dublin.

In the space of 11 short months since it open for business last October, Slick Barbers has built up a loyal customer base. To the delight of Arlene and Higor, who live above the premises, these customers nominated and voted for Slick Barbers throughout the process.

‘We were short listed in the top ten barbers and then announced at the final. We are thrilled, it still has not sunk in and just want to thank all who voted for us,’ said Arlene.

Higor, who is only 22 years old, is originally from Brazil, where he learned his trade from his father, who owns his own barber shop.

‘He trained with his father before coming to Ireland in 2015 and set his own barbers up. It was always his dream to have his own shop,’ said Arlene.

Higor worked in Brazil and Ireland as a barber for the past four years, but last year decided it is time to have his own place.

‘The shop has such a lovely atmosphere, especially after school when the students come in. They can play pool while they wait for their turn to have their hair cut,’ said Arlene.

Arlene said they just hired their first employee as things are starting to pick up – Higor’s twin brother Hiago.
