A COLLABORATION WITH THE KIDS
ART BUFFS came from all over to the beautiful surroundings of Enniscorthy’s Presentation Centre to witness the official opening of a new body of work from local artist Anne Manning.
‘Extensile’ is an exhibition of work formed around ideas, observations and innovation with emphasis on the collaboration and the creative process used by children and artists alike.
Anne says that, as well as being a collaboration with friends, family and the local community, the exhibition is also a collaboration with the children of Carrig Briste and Killegney Early Years. Having worked. Having worked with children throughout her career, Anne’s work is influenced by the organic exploration and methods used by children and the aesthetic outcome created by their methods of exploration and surreal creative process.
‘It’s an attempt to show surrealism within sculpture,’ said the proud artist at the launch. ‘Melting and exploring thoughts, collaboration together and presenting these thoughts in a visual form.
While working as an artist in Carrig Briste and Killegney, both Anne and the schools were awarded an innovation award for art, acknowledging the visual arts as an innovative pedagogy in early years.
Anne’s other collaborative exhibition, ‘Side Tables’, which was exhibited last year in the Presentation Centre, has opened exciting doors for innovation in art education and she aims to continue this process with her latest work which she completed in June of 2017. The exhibition certainly got a great reaction among those present at the launch and the work is available to view at The Presentation Centre until September 29.
