Number of entries high this year for gymkhana
THE rain held off for the first time in three years for the 38th Johnstown-Coolgreany Gymkhana and Field Day, which managed to raise a generous amount of €10,000 for two local organisations.
For the first time in 38 years Johnstown Church will benefit from the funds raised, who will share the €10,000 with Coolgreany Tidy Towns.
‘The number of entries we got this year for the horse jumping and dog show were up this year, the weather definitely helped us,’ said chairman for Johnstown-Coolgreany Gymkhana Declan Finn.
Declan said they had a lot of entries for the Pony Jumping Show and the Horse Jumping show, where many visitors gathered around the ring to see all the different competitions.
The annual field day ran along side with gymkhana, where everyone enjoyed all the different activities including wheel of fortune, bric-a-brac, and some light refreshments.
‘We are definitely going to look at the field day events and make it bigger for next year as we feel it is something that is starting to die out,’ said Declan.
Declan said he would like to thank for all of those who helped on the day and to anyone who donated towards two great local causes.
