RECRUITING BEGINS FOR WEXFORD’S NEW KIDNEY DIALYSIS UNIT

- By MARIA PEPPER

B.BRAUN, the company building a new kidney dialysis centre on the outskirts of Wexford town, is looking for nursing and health care staff to work in the unit.

The Wellstone Clinic, currently under construction at Sinnottstown Lane, Drinagh, is scheduled to open in early 2018 and will cater for County Wexford patients who currently have to travel to Waterford or Dublin for dialysis treatment.

B. Braun has begun recruiting staff nurses and health care assistants to join the team at what it has described as ‘ a world class dialysis clinic offering excellent facilities and care’.

Patients currently attending Waterford University Hospital for dialsyis will be transferred to the new centre although they will remain under the continuing care of consultant nephrologists in Waterford which will serve as the parent unit.

The Wexford unit will be a satellite of the nephrology department at Waterford Hospital which will have clinical governance over the patients attending it.

The company is looking for full time staff nurses who must be registered with An Bord Altranais. Experience of renal care is desirable but not essential.

Health care assistants with a Fetac Level 5 Healthcare Support qualification are also being sought. Candidates are asked to send their CV’s by email to hrbbmirl.ie@bbraun.com.

The renal unit will incorporate 14 treatment bays catering for 35 to 50 patients who will be cared for by eight medical staff.

There will be 19 car parking spaces to the front and side of the building and an ambulance drop-off area.

The building is being constructed by TOC (Tom O’Connor) Construction of Kilmuckridge, and all the sub-contractors are Wexford-based, according to a spokesman for B. Braun who described the unit as ‘very much a Wexford-delivered project’.

Once the construction work is completed, the building will have to be fitted out and commissioned. This will involve the installation of specialist water treatment infrastructure and dialysis equipment.

B.Braun said there will be additional employment opportunities in Drinagh in waste management contracts, cleaning, patient support services and transport contracts with the HSE.

Clinical waste will be collected weekly by a specialist contractor while domestic waste will be collected by a private operator.

B.Braun has been operating a well-established Wellstone clinic in Galway for over a decade.
