Cookery demo

AS part of Positive Ageing Week, which runs from September 25 to October 1, Gorey Library will host a cookery demonstrat­ion with culinary tutor Margaret Corcoran on Tuesday, September 26, at 7 p.m.

Margaret will show participan­ts how to prepare simple and budget-friendly one pot wonder dishes. This event is free and all are welcome to attend. Booking is essential as places are limited.

Tennessee Williams

Three Tennessee Williams plays will be performed by Coolgreany Amateur Dramatic Society in St Mogue’s Hall, Inch, from Tuesday to Thursday, September 26 to 28. Tickets are €10 and will be available at the door. Doors open at 7.30 p.m. for an 8 p.m. start. Compliment­ary home made cakes and tea will be available.

Hospice day

Quinn Property, Main Street, Gorey, will hold its annual coffee morning in aid of North Wexford Hospice Homecare on Wednesday, September 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please come along and bring a friend.

Snooker Club

Join the members of St Patrick’s Snooker Club in Tesco, Gorey, on Saturday, September 30, as they take part in demonstrat­ion games and provide informatio­n on how to join the club.

Open day

Awareness Head to Toe is hosting a farm safety and mental health awareness open day on Leslie Dixon’s farm, Moneylawn, Gorey, on Saturday, September 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event will include farm safety demonstrat­ions, mental health talks, and general health talks.

Garda Station Fun Day

A family fun day will be held at Gorey Garda Station on Sunday, October 8, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The day will include children’s activities, the Garda Band, the Garda Air Support Unit, Garda Under Water Unit, the Garda Mounted Unit, the Dog Unit, and a raffle. All proceeds go to local charities including Gorey Cardiac First Responders, YOLOS, and Talk to Tom.

Set dancing

Set dancing at the Rock Hall has resumed on Monday nights at 8 p.m. Beginners are welcome for a good night of fun. Run by John Joe Lucey.

Exhibition

‘Journey into the Unknown’, a photograph­ic exhibition by journalist and photograph­er Jim Campbell charting his experience­s in the conflict areas of Syria and Iraq, is now on show at Gorey Library until Friday, September 29.

Runners

Gorey Running Group meets at Lidl, Gorey, at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The group does short distances between 5k and 8k at an easy pace. This is ideal training for the Park Run. Nobody gets left behind, and many involved are beginners. Text 083 8712912 for more informatio­n.

Conradh

Conradh na Gaeilge Guaire meets for informal comhrá on Saturdays in the Loch Garman Arms, Gorey, from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and in the Bridge Bar, Gorey, on Tuesdays from 8.30 p.m. All are most welcome.

Choral Group

Scout night

A Christmas party in aid of Gorey Scout Group will be held on Friday, December 15, in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey. The event includes a drinks reception at 7 p.m., a four course meal at 8 p.m. followed by live music with Deuces Wild and a DJ till late. Spot prizes. Ticket €50. Active Retired

Gorey Active Retirement Associatio­n will hold a memorial service in Gorey Methodist Church on Thursday, October 5, at 4 p.m. Refreshmen­ts served afterwards in the Loch Garman Arms. A tea dance will take place on October 15 in Rue Glen Hotel, New Ross at 1 p.m. and the price is €20. Transport is extra. Please book by October 5. The group are now taking names for the waiting list for the Guinness Trip on Wednesday October 25 and the price is €30.

Festival of Colours

Gorey Cricket Club is getting set to host a Festival of Colours, celebratin­g ethnicity, culture and diversity, on Sunday, October 1, from 11.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Gorey Showground­s.

Gorey Cricket Club has many members of different nationalit­ies and many of them will play their traditiona­l music, wear their distinctiv­e costumes, and tell stories. There will also be stalls selling native foods.

The highlight will be a rounders versus cricket match with local ‘celebritie­s.’ The finale will be colour engagement similar to the Holi Festival held annually in India. Chinese lanterns will be released by a representa­tive from each country. All proceeds will go to Gorey Cricket Club for the cost of implementi­ng their new wicket.

Historical talk

The first in a new series of winter lectures by the North Wexford Historical Society will take place in Gorey Library on Thursday, September 28, at 7.30 p.m.

It will feature a talk by Richard Mulcahy on his grandmothe­r Min Ryan and her connection­s to Sean McDuirmuid­a, Richard Mulcahy, and Micheal Collins. Free admission for members and €5 for non-members.

Social Group

A social group in the south-east welcomes new members both male and female. The group encourages social activities such as outings, weekend breaks, social dancing, dining out etc. There are no membership fees. For further informatio­n contact 089 4109410.

Book launch

Kilmuckrid­ge based author Sheila Forsey will launch her debut novel ‘Mending Lace’ on Friday, October 20, in The Book Centre, Wexford. It will be officially launched by best-selling author Carmel Harrington.

Housing event

A public meeting on Gorey’s housing crisis will be held in the Loch Garman Arms, Gorey, on Wednesday, September 27, at 8 p.m. Organiser Cllr Joe Sullivan said there will be an independen­t chairman, and it’s hoped the meeting will give people on the housing list the chance to have their voice heard by the decision makers at county level.

Sean Og’s Bridge

Come play bridge at Sean Og’s Bridge Club, Upton Court Hotel, Kilmuckrid­ge, every Thursday morning from 10 a.m. sharp. No partner required as a joker system is in operation. The results for Thursday, September 14 are: 1. Sadie Owens and June Coogan; 2nd. Jo and Podge Ussher.

The first whist of the season takes place tonight, Tuesday, September 26, at 8.30 p.m. in Leskinfere school, Clogh. The event is hosted by Ballyought­er I.C.A. Guild. All welcome.

The next meeting of Gorey ICA will take place on Tuesday, October 10, at 8 p.m. in the Loch Garman Arms. New members welcome.

Business advice clinic

Gorey Chamber working with Wexford Local Enterprise Office and Gorey Library will hold a business advice clinic aimed at start-ups, expansion and restructur­ing. AGM

The AGM of the Gorey Community School Parent’s Associatio­n will take place on Monday, October 2, at 6.45 p.m. in the Senior Canteen of the school. There will be a talk on the new Junior Cert syllabus on the night. All welcome.
