AOIFE AND ÁINE KENNEDY MEMORIAL FUND TO HOLD ‘NIGHT OF STARS’

- By FINTAN LAMBE

A NIGHT of Stars will be an appropriate celebration of the good work carried out by the Aoife and Aine Kennedy Memorial Fund over the past ten years.

The concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, November 10, in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey, will feature performances by: The Wolseley Singers, accompanied by Martin Leacy; tenor Michael Flood; Bobby Byrne on trumpet; The Navvies; tenor Paul Hennessey; the Coláiste Bhríde Carnew orchestra; Junior Eurovision winner 2016 Zena Donnelly; and Deirdre Masterson with her Irish College of Musical Theatre. ‘Our Sweet Angels’ a song written for Aoife and Aine by Charlie McGettigan, will be sung by Martin Lacey.

The charity held its first event on November 15, 2007, in the Ashdown. The fashion glitz and glam night was held in memory of the late Aoife Kennedy who was just fiveand-a-half years old when she was tragically killed in a road traffic incident in Carnew. The charity was set up a year later in her memory to raise funds for a transport ventilator for Wexford General Hospital.

In April 2010, tragedy visited the Kennedy family a second time, when their daughter Aine, now aged five-and-a-half, was lost to culture negative sepsis. After her death, the charity was renamed the Aoife and Aine Kennedy Memorial Fund, and many good causes have been supported in the years since.

Proceeds from the Night of Stars will go to the MRI Fund at Wexford General Hospital.

Tickets at €15 for adults and €10 for children, are available from the Ashdown Park Hotel; McCabe’s Pharmacy, (McCauley’s) Gorey; Hall’s Shop, Carnew; or from Caroline on 087 2304157 or Colm on 087 2886845. Spot prizes welcome.
