70 ESTATES TO BE TAKEN IN CHARGE BY YEAR’S END

SEVENTY estates across County Wexford will be taken in charge by the end of 2017.

The meeting heard that under the Planning Act the local authority is required to take the estates in charge, but Irish Water does not have to. Director of Services for Planning Tony Larkin said it is a grey area, adding that residents apply to have their estates taken in charge. Mr Larkin said the council has a very busy programme, adding: ‘These are very tricky legal areas.’

Applicatio­ns from the following 13 estates have been sent to Irish Water for their approval for the next stage of the taking in charge process: Branogue Park, Riverchape­l; Coil Aoibhinn, Wexford; Meadowbroo­k, Oulart; Orchard Close, Ardcavan; Sallyville, Rosslare; The Willows, Killinick; Woodlands, Clonroche; Woodview, Castlebrid­ge; Churchwood, Kilrane; Rosehill Heights, Rosslare; Ard na Cuan, Whiterock (Houses 35-44); Millhaven, Ballyedmon­d and Waterside Close, Clonhamon.

Mr Larkin said 43 estates have been taken in charge to date. These area: Greenville Lane, Enniscorth­y;

Chairman Cllr John Hegarty praised the planning department on the achievemen­t of getting 43 estates over the line.
