At the Arts Centre, so much going on for all the family

WEXFORD Arts Centre has assembled an array of entertainm­ent for all the family during the Opera Festival.

The Halloween weekend will be jam packed with activities for children starting on Friday, October 27, at 3.30pm with Jeff & Elvis – a magical adventure featuring Jeff the farmer and his Pegacorn Elvis.

On Sunday the 29th at 2pm, Red Moon will entertain with interactiv­e Halloween stories in ‘Which Way did the Witch Go’. On Tuesday the 31st, there will be spooky facepainti­ng at 11am. On Friday, November 3, at 2pm, ‘This Little Piggy’ will adance the story of the Three Little Pigs with live theatre and puppetry.

Drama enthusiast­s will be delighted with the return of Wexford Drama Group with Little Gem, the funny story of a year in the life of three generation­s of women, from Wednesday the 25th to Sunday the 29th at 8pm nightly. Smashing Times Theatre group will present the powerful ‘The Woman is Present: Women’s Stories of WWII’, a creative re-imagining of moments from the lives of women during the Second World War, recalling stories of bravery, sacrifice, and love amidst the horror of war.

Phelim Drew will bring his adaptation of George Orwell’s Down And Out In Paris And London to the Arts Centre on November 9.

Music fans won’t be disappoint­ed with a performanc­e from Musici Ireland featuring French Horn player Jocelyn Lightfoot on Monday, October 30, at 2pm. Rónán Ó Snodaigh and members of Kíla will celebrate the Celtic festival of Samhain on Thursday 2nd November. Local hero Billy Roche is back by popular demand with his Red Guitar Tour on Friday, November 3, at 8.30pm followed by the Kevin Lawlor Quartet paying tribute to the music of John Coltrane on Saturday the 4th at 8.30pm.

For comedy fans, there is a blend of quick-fire humour, impression­s, songs, and banter with James Bierney and Barry O’Neill and The Suitcase Cabaret on Sunday, October 28, at 3.30pm and finally to lift you out of the doldrums after the end of the festival, David O’Doherty will return to tickle our ribcage with his unique blend of humour on Saturday, November 11, at 8pm.

There are two artists-in-residence at the Arts Centre Annexe in John’s Gate Street – Ceri Ryan who graduated from the National College of Art and Design with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting and Ciaran Bowen who achieved his BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Wexford School of Art and Design in 2015 when he was awarded the Carlow Institute of Technology Purchase Award.
