Exhibition of ‘The Siege of Wexford’ panel from the Ros Tapestry. Wexford was promised to Fitzstephens during negotiations with MacMurrough but the town resisted as it was an independent Viking city state, only paying token dues to the Kings of Leinster. After an unsuccessful siege and attempt to take the town by force, Dermot finally had to send his bishop to agree a settlement with the Norsemen.
