Thirteen titles to be decided COISTE NA NOG

-

JUST 13 trophies remain up for grabs across the People Newspapers Coiste na nÓg championships as the season inches towards a conclusion. A handful of those will be completed this week, but a few are still a little behind.

The New Ross Standard Under-14 championships should end this weekend when the last two hurling titles are down for decision. First up is the Division 5 decider between Kilmore and St. James’ in Gusserane (Sunday, 11 a.m.).

The Ramsgrange side conceded just two scores in each of their knockout games, racking up big margins of victory. However, Kilmore have put in a huge effort to make this stage and should not be underestimated.

That game is followed by the Division 5 shield final between Cloughbawn and Taghmon-Camross.

These clubs met twice in the group stages and both teams won their home game so it promises to be a close-run contest.

Two titles remain available in the Enniscorthy Guardian Juvenile hurling championships. The Roinn 1 final pits Blackwater against Rathnure and is scheduled for Bree on Saturday (11 a.m.).

Two months ago these sides played out an entertaining draw in the round-robin stages and this looks set to be equally as close. At the time of writing, there is no date set for the Roinn 1 shield final between Oulart-The Ballagh and Ballinastragh Gaels.

Naomh Eanna and Starlights continue to wait for their Gorey Guardian Juvenile football Premier final date but the Premier shield, between Shelmaliers and Ballinastragh, is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Wednesday) in St. Patrick’s Park (7.15 p.m.).

The Wexford People Minor hurling Premier title is no closer to a finish this week. Ferns St. Aidan’s won their semi-final last week and are currently waiting for the other last four clash between St. Martin’s and Naomh Eanna.

Oylegate-Glenbrien are scheduled to host Rapparees in the Premier shield semi-final this Saturday at 11 a.m. The meeting of Oulart-The Ballagh and HWH-Bunclody is yet to take place in the Roinn 1 hurling shield, and Hollow Rovers await in the final.

There was some movement on the Wexford People Minor football Premier front, with St. Martin’s booking their place in the title decider after beating Glynn-Barntown after extra-time on Friday.

The Piercestown-based side led by 0-6 to 1-1 at the break and got further ahead after Jack Devereux netted but they were pegged back as the half wore on (1-8 to 2-5). In the end, St. Martin’s built a lead in the first-half of extra-time and advanced by 2-10 to 2-7.

The second semi-final is scheduled to take place this weekend coming. Starlights edged past Naomh Eanna in the quarters on Sunday and now take on table-topping HWH-Bunclody for a place in the title decider.

Ballinastragh Gaels beat Castle-Craan Gaels in the Roinn 1 semi-final last weekend and now await the winners of Blackwater and Shelmaliers in the final.

In the shield decider, Kilrush will play the victors of the Oylegate-Glenbrien versus Cloughbawn game on Sunday week.
