CONGRATULA­TIONS

Congratula­tions to Loreta Rochford-Hennessy, Barmona, daughter of Noeleen and Paddy Hennessy, who married Edmund O’Hanlon from Co. Letrim in San Silvester Church in Rome recently. They were joined in the Eternal City for the nuptials by their families and everyone in Boolavogue wishes the happy couple many years of health and happiness together.

SCHOOL OPEN EVENING

Coláiste an Átha’s annual open evening will be held in Kilmuckrid­ge on Thursday, October 26, from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. All fifth. And sixth. class pupils from Boolavogue and their parents are invited to attend. Further informatio­n is available on the school’s website at colaistean­atha.ie. The staff and pupils of the school would love to see you there on the night.

SOCCER NEWS

Conor Burke starred in goal for the St Cormac’s under-11s on Saturday, October 7, when they took on Glynn-Barntown in an exciting tough game. The under-14 girls played their first league match of the season on the same day and beat Rosslare Strand by 7-1. Emerson Doran, Sophie Kirwin and Bronagh Kenny all scored two goals each. Jessica Foran scored the other goal.

The club’s under-nines took part in their first blitz of the season which was hosted by Wexford Albion. Our lads took on Albion, Oylegate and Wexford Boys and impressed in every game.

The under-13s were at home to Oylegate and lost by 2-6 while the under-15s, away to New Ross Town, also lost.

The Youths’ team had a tough game at home, hosting the talented Cloughbawn team. Despite scoring three great goals, they finished level with the visitors, dropping points for the first time this season. Jamie DempseyDoy­le converted a penalty early in the game after Jack White was upended in the area. Near halftime the visitors levelled the score but Jack White put us ahead shortly after the break, collecting and capitalisi­ng on a great pass from Ryan Milling. Cloughbawn soon made it 2-2 and Ryan Milling then scored our third goal. A converted penalty near the end gave Cloughbawn a share of the points.

Rachael Breen and Saoirse O’Shea starred for the ladies’ team on Sunday the eighth., a tough game against New Ross Town, who won the game.

The Men’s ‘A’ team, away to Adamstown, won by 5-0 thanks to goals from Paul ‘Roddy’ Doyle, Jamie Dempsey-Doyle, Seán Roche, Mick Sweeney and Ray O’Brien. The ‘B’ team also were away to Adamstown and collected maximum points. Dean Fortune scored a hat-trick in the first half. Mark Rossiter and Pádraig Moran added goals in the second half helping the team maintain their unbeaten record.

CAMOGIE COUNTY FINAL

The junior camogie team lost their county final against Craanford by a single point. The game was played in Farmleigh on Saturday, October 7, and attracted a huge crowd of supporters who were there to cheer on one of the most inspiratio­nal teams to play for parish in a long time.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD

On Saturday night, October 21, Aodhagán Swords is reading at the Vigil Mass with James Breen reading at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning. Minister for the Eucharist at the Vigil Mass is Ann Whelan with Gaye Gahan assisting at Communion on Sunday, October 22.

GAA LOTTO DRAW

Tonighe, Tuesday, October 17, the draw for the €3,250 jackpot takes place in the New Clubhouse in Monageer at 9.30 p.m. If you haven’t already bought a ticket, tickets will be on sale on the night.

FR MURPHY CENTRE

Kilclonfer­t Active Retirement Group visited the Fr Murphy Centre on Tuesday, October 3. The local ‘Tuesday Afternoon Club’ provided entertainm­ent by way of music and sketches.
