COUNTY FINAL

Best wishes to our senior hurlers and management in the Co. senior hurling final, against St Martin’s in Wexford Park on Sunday, October 22. Let’s hope that our captain, Nicky Kirwan, will bring the Bob Bowe Cup back to the parish for the fourteenth time since winning the first in 1994. Supporters are encouraged to display flags and banners and to wear club gear to honour the occasion.

AFTER-MATCH MEAL

After Sundays match, Oulart-The Ballagh players, management and supporters will gather in the Riverbank House Hotel for a post match meal. Supporters wishing to join them for the meal should book with club treasurer, Pauline Davitt (087 6864594) no later than Thursday night, October 19.

GAA SHOP

In order to facilitate supporters who would like to buy some club gear the Oulart-The Ballagh GAA shop will be open in the Upper Complex on Thursday, October 19, 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

NOTES IN LOCAL PAPERS

The Wexford People/Enniscorthy Guardian local newspapers have agreed to give separate space, each week, to notes covering the Ballagh area, provided they are submitted through the local correspondent.

Accordingly, groups, organisations and individuals who would like coverage of their activities and successes should contact Breda Jacob, by email (mickjacobjr@yahoo.co.uk), phone or text (086 1686978) or by calling to the house, no later than 8 p.m. on Thursdays prior to publication. The success and continuation of the Ballagh Notes will depend on a positive response.

ALL-STAR NOMINATION

Congratulations to Shelley Kehoe, who is one of four Wexford camogie players nominated for a camogie All-Star this year. The local community sends its best wishes to Shelley and we all hope that her talent and contribution to Wexford will be recognised when the selectors pick the team that will be announced in a couple of weeks. Interestingly, this year for the first time ever, the camogie All Stars will be travelling abroad on an All-Star trip.

COOKERY DEMO

In conjunction with our club sponsor Corrigan’s Spar and Family Butchers and Super Chips, the well known chef and food writer Edward Hayden will give a cookery demonstration in the Riverside Hotel, Enniscorthy at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28. Alongside Edward’s cooking delights, there will be a variety of stallholders showcasing their products. It promises to be a great night’s entertainment. Tickets will cost €15 each or two for €25 and will be available from camogie club members and the club committee.

CAMOGIE CLUB 40TH

Oulart-The Ballagh camogie club will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2019. To commemorate this special anniversary it is proposed to publish a book on the club’s history. The book will recall the 40 years of camogie in our parish, the highs and the lows, the stories and memories of current and former players and club members.

A sub-committee to oversee the research and production of the book will be formed in the coming months. In the meantime, we would ask people to think about any information or stories they have about the club, and to root out any photographs, artefacts or newspaper articles that could be used.
