Doors back open at Iceland following closure of over a week
ICELAND has written an open letter, published in an advert in this week’s Guardian, apologising to customers after the HSE served a closure order on the premises following a report of mice in the store.
The shop closed suddenly on Wednesday, November 15, and did not reopen until yesterday, Monday. The only explanation for the mystery closure given by the company last Monday was that it ‘took the opportunity to complete some building work’ but it later emerged on the Food Safety Authority of Ireland website that a closure order had been served.
A statement issued yesterday, Monday said that ‘Iceland prides itself on bringing customers the very highest standards, great value, range and quality and we are fully committed to Gorey.’
‘Iceland Gorey is now back open after we temporarily closed our store to complete some repair works,’ it continued. ‘Unfortunately we also had a report of mice in the store. We apologise to our customers for any upset or inconvenience this has caused.’
‘Regarding the report of mice, we followed all our best practice protocols in dealing with this report,’ the statement added. ‘We were in touch with the relevant authorities and kept the store closed while undertaking a thorough deep clean of the store and this is now complete. We communicated with customers via social media to keep them updated. We are delighted to say that Iceland Gorey is back open again, looking even better than before.’
The company employs 27 people in Gorey.
