Camolin main street surface is crumbling

-

THE MAIN STREET in Camolin is crumbling away after it was resurfaced four years ago, said Cllr Anthony Donohoe at last week’s meeting of Gorey Municipal District.

However, he asked that the repair works be held off until the Enniscorthy bypass opens.

Engineer Tony Quirke said that Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), which has responsibility for the road, would need to take a look at it before considering any resurfacing works.

‘The TII are resurfacing Ferns once the bypass opens,’ said Cllr Donohoe. ‘So I think it is only right we wait and get the TII to do Camolin as well.’

Cllr John Hegarty agreed with his fellow councillor. He said there something wasn’t done correctly with the main street of Camolin four years ago.

‘I don’t think it is fair for us to face another bill if this keeps recurring,’ added Cllr Hegarty.

Cllr Donohoe also asked for the pedestrian lights in Camolin to be fixed as they have been out since the hurricane.

‘The Ballytegan footpaths need to be finished, along with some public lighting,’ added Cllr Robbie Ireton.

He said the place is in complete darkness and it poses a danger, especially to schoolchildren who might be walking there.

Mr Quirke said that the broadband works in the town centre were almost complete and the Winter Ready Programme is now in place.

‘We have grit boxes distributed around the town and surrounding villages,’ he added.

District director Eddie Taaffe said the council has a list of agricultural contractors that are on call and available to help.

‘There is a plan in place,’ he said.
