Film screening sells out

-

LOCALS finally got to see ‘The Lion’s Share’, a short film shot primarily in North Wexford, when a charity screening was held at Gorey cinema recently.

Such was the local interest in the film in the weeks before the event, that the organisers had to move the event to the largest screen in the cinema, and it still sold out.

Among those present on the evening were some of the local actors who appeared in the film, including Aisling O’Neill, Liz Lloyd, and Richard Lister.

Director Owen O’Gorman explained that the film, set in Dublin Zoo in 1916, was shot with a minuscule budget, and the cast and crew gave their time for nothing. He paid tribute to all the local businesses and individuals who supported the crew during the shooting. Locations used included Kia Ora Mini Farm, Gorey Little Theatre, and Richard Lister’s home in Coolgreany.

The evening began with another short film, ‘Proclaim’, written and directed by Maureen O’Connell who was in the audience. Owen thanked Liz Lloyd, Geraine O’Loughlin, and Richard Lister for organising the screening in aid of St Aidan’s Services and Pet Helpers.

Speaking afterwards, Geraine O’Loughlin said they were thrilled with the response from the evening. ‘We got fantastic support from local communities in Gorey, Coolgreany, Ballygarrett, and all over,’ she said.

Sincere thanks were sent to the cinema management and staff and all who gave raffle prizes.
